University Founders
President Lincoln signed the Morrill Land Grant Act in 1862. Declaring that the federal government the United States would land grant to any State prepared using the proceeds from the sale of land to be used for the maintenance of an educational institution for the "mechanical arts" and agriculture. Three years later decided to take steps to establish a college in the State high among all Americas best schools. Founded by using one hundred acres of land donated fifty thousand dollars from County Tecumseh, and one hundred fifty dollars donate generously by a gentleman named John Purdue. Therefore, Perdue University!
Campus
Today, the university has six campuses and majors offered in many different areas. Over two hundred undergraduate and graduate courses are available. Renowned for its engineering school, which offers some of the best programs for aviation and aerospace in the world. Boasting a world-class school of flight and are pioneers in the development of aerospace and research. Their graduates Aeronautics are ranked among the best of new recruits in the defense industry. They were the first to offer a bachelor degree in aviation and the first university to have it's own airport.
Search and discovery
Purdue Research Park and Discovery Park include the grounds of the university. The site stretches for miles, covering more than seven hundred acres, a few miles north-west campus of Purdue University. One hundred and fifty biological, nanotechnology, medical societies and laboratories are the largest technology park the State of Indiana. More than fifty buildings make up the park today. Founded over forty years ago, it became one of the largest university affiliated technology parks, across the American states.
Moniker and Mascots
Pseudo official for the athletes of the University Perdue is "boilermakers. Although the abbreviated version, "Boiler" is often used to refer to any student of Perdue. First used in 1891 by a local journalist, referring winning team of the university. It was quickly adopted by students, and continued to be used when referring to almost all things related to Perdue. For forty nineteen, their official mascot, come emblem was the "Boilermaker Special. A replica locomotive originally adopted to highlight the success Lost in the engineering field. Especially in railway technology. "Pete Perdue is an unofficial mascot, sadly famous both on and off campus. The latest addition to the mascot of the University family Purdue is rowdy. Achievements
Over half of the twentieth century, the aviation program at the University has begun to integrate advanced spaceflight technology. Today, these programs Purdue earned the nickname "Cradle of the astronaut. More than twenty NASA astronauts come from Perdue.
