More than eight decades ago, a small aircraft company started in Wichita, Kansas. To do what others said could not be done – to build a monoplane that can use a wing without supporting struts or braces. The Cessna All Purpose took off August 13, 1927, the aviation world was forever changed. In fact, Clyde Cessna’s cantilever design has been the standard ever since.

Truth be told, the history of Cessna is a long line of firsts. With such a heritage, it’s no wonder Cessna Aircraft Company is the leading designer and manufacturer of light and midsize business jets, utility turboprops and single engine aircraft, having sold and delivered more aircraft than anyone else in the world, History – 190,000 and counting. Today, with 15,000-plus dedicated employees worldwide and billions of dollars in orders for some of the world’s most advanced aircraft, the future of their company and their customers is even brighter than their lustrous past.

The company Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. started in the late 1950s when Grumman Aircraft Engineering Co., a company known for military aircraft production, developed a marketable business aircraft at its manufacturing facilities in Bethpage, N.Y. Dubbed the Gulfstream I (GI), the turbo-prop aircraft was named after the Gulf Stream, the current that flows along the coast of Florida, which was a favored vacationing spot for Grumman executives. The GI could sit 12 passengers comfortably, had a maximum speed of 350 mph at 25,000 feet and a range of 2,200 miles. The newly developed aircraft, the first of its kind designed specifically for business travel, was a success in the business world, prompting Grumman to develop a jet-powered corporate aircraft called the Gulfstream.

There may be others, but I realize has four programs: Embry-Riddle Dowling Ohio State LeTourneau I think Ohio State is the best known university, but the programs Embry-Riddle is probably better known for aviation, and the other two are equally legitimate in the field.

A Boeing 747 undertakes its major service every 26,000 flying hours (about every 4-5 years). The process takes around 56,000 man-hours (around 6 weeks). The cost of the service in parts and labor alone is $4.5 – $6 million. The cost of purchasing a brand new 747-400 is around $234.0 – $266.5 million USD.

747400

The Boeing 747-400 is one of the world’s largest passenger jet liners at 70m long with a 60m-wing span. Its tail stands 19.5m tall and it holds 427 passengers in a typical “tri-class” configuration. With a fuel capacity of 230,000 litres of jet fuel, the aircraft has a range of 13,340km enabling flights between Sydney and San Francisco non-stop.

The maximum take-off weight of the aircraft is 396,890kg. Each engine produces 27,240kg thrust (approx. 55,000hp) on take-off, which produces enough suction into the intake to ingest an adult male from 30 metres.
